Michael Banks, Senior Vice President, D.E. Shaw & Co., L.P.

Michael Banks has 17 years of experience as an entrepreneur, strategic consultant and venture capitalist working in the technology industry.

Prior to joining the D.E. Shaw group in 2007, where he also serves as an executive of the venture capital unit, Banks was a managing director of Palisades Ventures, a Los Angeles-based venture capital fund. From 2001 to 2003, he was a managing director of Steamboat Ventures, the venture capital arm of The Walt Disney Co.

Before that, Banks spent four years as a managing director of Intel Capital, the venture capital unit of Intel Corp., where he first managed a team of more than 20 investment professionals focused on investments in emerging technologies in the broadband, media and communications sectors. At Intel, he subsequently was responsible for managing e-business and infrastructure investments in Latin America.

From 1994 to 1995, Banks was a vice president of Stanford Consulting Group Inc., where he specialized in intellectual property consulting for technology companies. Prior to 1994, he held various management positions with LECG (Law and Economics Consulting Group) and Cornerstone Research.

Banks received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Master of Arts degree in international policy studies from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. from UCLA Anderson School of Management.

 

Court Cunningham, Chief Executive Officer, Yodle

Court Cunningham joined Yodle in April 2006 as CEO. Prior to Yodle, Cunningham was COO at Community Connect (CCI), a niche social networking company, with responsibility for leading its consumer marketing, product management and development efforts.

Prior to joining CCI, Cunningham was senior vice president of marketing automation at DoubleClick. In this role, he was responsible for the sales, product management, operations and the P&L of DoubleClick's suite of hosted technology products for direct marketers.

Cunningham led the creation of DoubleClick's email marketing product, DARTmail, and over four years, built DARTmail into the industry leader, generating more revenues, customers and email delivery volume than any other player in the market.

Before joining DoubleClick, Cunningham worked as a case team leader at Bain & Co., a Boston-based consulting firm.

Cunningham received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

 

David Gitow, Chief Marketing Officer, Barnes & Noble

David Gitow oversees all marketing activities for Barnes & Noble, a $5 billion specialty retailer, managing both Internet and store channels as well as the company's gift card business and member loyalty program.

Prior to joining Barnes & Noble, Gitow served as chief marketing officer of Enews.com, and was the founder and president of Time Inc. Home Entertainment, which encompassed 13 product lines, including Time, People, Sports Illustrated, Money, Fortune, Entertainment Weekly and other top publications.

Gitow holds a M.B.A. in marketing from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Vassar University.

 

Thomas W. Naughton, Managing Director, NeoCarta Ventures

Tom Naughton was previously Vice President for GE Equity, the private equity division of GE and GE Capital. 

Naughton received his MBA from The Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where he graduated as an Edward Tuck Scholar with High Distinction; he also holds a BA in Mathematics from Dartmouth College.

 

Bill Nussey, President and CEO, Silverpop

Bill Nussey is CEO of Silverpop and author of the acclaimed book, "The Quiet Revolution in Email Marketing." Nussey has 20 years of experience as a chief executive for technology companies.

Prior to Silverpop, Nussey was president and CEO of iXL Inc., a publicly traded e-business consulting firm. During his tenure, iXL executed its initial public offering, grew revenues from $10 million to $120 million per quarter, and served multiple Fortune 500 customers including General Electric, JP Morgan and Delta.

Prior to iXL, Nussey was an investment professional with Greylock, where he worked on investments including DoubleClick, MediaMetrix and iXL. Before Greylock, Nussey was the co-founder and CEO of Da Vinci Systems.

In 2004, Nussey received the Direct Marketing Association's Marketing Technology and Internet Council Annual Award of Excellence, and was named Marketer of the Year by the Atlanta Interactive Marketing Association. He also serves on the board of directors of nuBridges and Air2Web.

Nussey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

 

W. Thomas Smith, Founder and Managing Partner, Total Technology Ventures

W. Thomas Smith is a founder and managing partner of Total Technology Ventures, an Atlanta-based investment firm focused on providing capital to early-to-late stage privately held companies.

Prior to his retirement in 2000, Smith served as vice president of small and medium business at IBM Americas. Prior to that, he was Southern Area General Manager, with responsibility for IBM's sales, marketing and services for 13 states with 6,000 employees.

He also serves on the board of directors of Austin Logistics Inc., Green Dot Corp., Serious Inc., E-Duction Inc., and PRBC.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from The Georgia Institute of Technology in 1969 and completed the executive program at Dartmouth's Amos Tuck School of Business in 1986.

 

Andreas Stavropoulos, Managing Director, Draper Fisher Jurvetson

Andreas Stavropoulos is a managing director at Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ), where he serves on the boards of Akimbo, AppStream, everdream, H5 Technologies, MeetUp, Mobile 365, Pronto Networks, Silverpop, Technorati and Wavemarket. In addition, he led the firm's investments in Centerpost, ePocrates, 4info, Mimeo and Polaris Wireless. Stavropoulos focuses primarily on software investments (enterprise infrastructure and consumer/internet), wireless networking and technology-enabled services.

Prior to joining DFJ, Stavropoulos was with McKinsey & Co.'s San Francisco office, where he worked with senior management teams of corporate clients with an emphasis on information technology. Prior to McKinsey, he was a senior analyst at Cornerstone Research, a financial and economic consulting firm that helps resolve complex issues arising in high-profile business litigation.

Stavropoulos is a summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard College in computer science. He also holds a Master of Science degree in computer science from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar and graduated first in his class.
